Apple Safari Analysis

safari benchmark

Apple’s Safari browser has made quite a name for itself among many Internet users by being the fastest browser. This chart from Web Performance Inc shows a comparison of average initial web page load times between the internet and the cached version of the page. As you can see, the overall relationship between browser performance is maintained for the initial web page load, with the Safari 3.0 beta the fastest, followed by IE7 close behind, and Firefox 2 the slowest.

The performance from the cache has changed, with Firefox 2 and IE7 in a virtual tie, but both being beaten slightly by the Safari 3 beta. In all the cases the Safari 3 Windows beta was the fastest browser in terms of web page load time. Safari has come out with flying colors in terms of speed. It has gained much attention and popularity and is slowly clawing its way up the market share, taking percentage points from other web browsers like internet explorer and firefox.

Safari has been reviewed by the web users on various grounds. It has been criticized as well as appreciated, for instance the speed of page load times remained its prime positive factor. In this test above the overall relationship between the browsers has been maintained, but the average load times has increased, reflecting the increased hit of restricted bandwidth on performance. In a nutshell Safari remained on top as compared with the other two browsers. We wait with baited breath for the new benchmark of IE8, Firefox 3 and Safari 3. Go Apple!

Apple lacks refinement and the browsers lack something else - got more work here bud!

The browser wars are not to end anytime now since the world is yet to witness the futuristic versions of the present browsers. Apple’s Safari, However, has a lot to catch up with. It did see a start, but it has to match up to the expectations — the hype that still takes time to simmer down in the wake of the huge popularity of the other Apple products.

Recently Apple’s safari was featured as the Freeware worth downloading and here is what Download.com had to say about it;

“As the web-browsing world waits for Firefox 3 and Internet Explorer 8, Apple makes its intentions known with a hard push of Safari for Windows and Mac. No, the sky has not fallen and we have yet to see the spontaneous evolution of avian bacon.

Much like iTunes, the Windows version of the Mac application works fine but lacks a certain tightness. It feels unfinished because it is, but its browsing engine is solid and has been independently clocked at speeds faster than Firefox 2. Still, Safari lacks most customization features. Skins and other aesthetic options exist in the Mac version, but not here. Font and Toolbar icons can be swapped around, but the Customize option is only accessible from the Menu bar so if you like right-clicking your way to a shapelier browser, Safari’s going to make you feel fat and ugly.

Having a Safari to play with is great for developers, but we recommend most people take their browser hunt to more familiar grounds “

Safari might lack a few things but does make up for speed and sleek looks. At one point in time, people have to decide what they want — some people like functionality and security while some like speed and looks. Each browser has something to boast about — let’s wait and see who walks away with what.
