iTunes and Safari tweaks from upgraded Versions
Apple’s latest versions of iTunes and Safari (8.1 and 4 Beta respectively) offer new features, but for some people it was longing the way things were. There were no fans for default settings or interface elements in the recent version.
The release of ‘Safari 4 Beta’ brought some changes in the interface to Apple’s browser and also included new tabs interface. But unfortunately, people weren’t the fans of new interface elements. ‘Safari 4 Beta’ provides quick access to fourteen hidden settings. There are some significant settings that you can change by yourself and they are:
• Tabs on Top – when it is unchecked it moves the tabs to Safari 3 position and then restores title bar.
• ‘Use new load progress style’ – if you have disabled ‘Toolbar Redesign setting’ to restore Safari 3 toolbar, the setting determines the progress indicator that you see.
• Toolbar Redesign – when it is unchecked it restores toolbar to layout of Safari 3 by removing Reload button, Bookmarks within spinning progress indicator and the address field.
• Cover flow in bookmarks – when it is unchecked it disables ‘Cover Flow’.
• Google suggestions – when it is unchecked it disables new drop – down list of search history and suggestions.
• Top site features – when it is unchecked it disables ‘Top Sites feature’.
Every time a new version of Apple iTunes gets introduced, people don’t like a couple of the tweaks such as the behaviour or the appearance.
Some of the other tweaks are showing library play – list, showing genre while browsing, showing arrow links, allowing half – stars in ratings, loading complete store preview before playing, playing songs while converting or importing and creating file names along with track number. Of course, if you have an iPod like the Apple iPod nano 8 GB, then you are practically forced to upgrade, which makes it difficult to reverse any changes later on. Nevertheless, most everything included in the new iTunes version is fairly positive.

Safari 4: Is It Really Fast and Secure?
Apple has boasting over its Safari 4 for the past few days. The new iteration of the web client claims that it’s the fastest of all the web browsers available currently. According to Apple, Safari 4 is powered via Nitro engine that renders JavaScript 4.2 times faster than the engine used in Safari 3. Another prominent feature of the 4th version of Safari is that it’s the first web browser to support HTML 5 database and advanced CSS features.
But still it doesn’t mean that the Safari 4 will bring an end to all the browsing issues. Certain lab tests show that the Safari is still open to hacking and lacks a full proof code. Charlie Miller, who embarrassed the Apple MacBook Air and was the winner of last year’s Pwn2Own hacking contest, stated that Safari 4 is easy to crack and can be hacked multiple times. Apple has always been disgraced for its unsecured codes and this time also it seems that the company will fail to offer a much secured web browser.
Apart from this the experts believe that the Safari 4 will not offer anything faster in real time. No, that doesn’t mean that there’s some problem with the Nitro. Nitro engine is very much enhanced and works fine under controlled conditions but when it comes to real world web browsing the main bottlenecks are the bandwidth available for downloading content and workflow of the application. It simply implies that a poorly designed web site cannot be loaded speedily, although the Java Script engine can render the pages and execute the content at a blazing speed. So, this is not actually a problem of Safari 4 but as far as the code security is concerned the developers can still do something extra.

The Apple Safari Browser is going to be hacked multiple Times during the Pwn2Own Competition
The Pwn2Own hacking competition is going to prove bad for Apple Safari web browser because the experts believe that this browser has got maximum number of security loopholes. The Safari browser is likely to be hacked multiple times at the contest. This is because it’s a user friendly web browser and supports lots of formats and applications. So, the chances of bugs also increase.
Charlie Miller, the white-hat hacker who successfully cracked an Apple MacBook Air at the last year’s Pwn2Own competition believes that this time the Safari browser will be hacked by at least four hackers. The browser’s security features are so weak that anyone can easily remotely install malware on the handhelds running Safari. Therefore, Miller says that the safari will be the first to fall and he also says that the Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox will throw a real challenge in front of the contestants. Apart from Safari, Google Chrome is also supposed to be an easy target for hackers.
Miller said, “It’s (Safari) an easy target. Apple’s products are really friendly to users, and Safari is designed to handle anything, including all kinds of file formats. With a lot of functionality comes the increased chance of bugs. The more complex software is, the less secure it is.”

Apple rejects the Opera Mini for the iPhone
It is sad news for Opera fans. The Apple App Store has rejected the Opera Mini application developed by Opera engineers for the iPhone. It has been rejected on the grounds of duplicating functionality. Apple executives claim Opera Mini is similar to the Mobile Safari on the iPhone. The features of the Mobile Safari are simply fantastic.
Users of the iPhone can pinch-in/double click to zoom out and pinch-out/double click to zoom in,. Users can open upto eight tabs on their screen and can use as a Word/Excel document and PDF reader. The Mobile Safari is actually the fastest mobile browsers available in the market. Users feel that they should be provided the opportunity to try out other web browsers on their iPhone so they can have a totally new web browsing experience.
The Opera Mini web mobile browser is very popular and is already available on many smartphones, like the HTC P3450, but Apple simply would not allow it to be featured on its iPhone. The Opera Mini mobile web browser has the capacity to interpret codes and this is something Apple will not allow on its iPhone. The Opera Mini can be run on any operating system like Symbian, Windows Mobile and even low-end systems that run only Java-based applications.
Not only is it easy to install, it is also intuitive. That is what makes it a favorite contender as an alternative web browser for the Safari on the iPhone. While many users of the iPhone feel tat Apple should allow Opera Mini on the iPhone, Apple does not think so and has categorically rejected the proposal.

iBlueAngel: The Best Alternative to Safari on the iPhone
Up until now we have discussed about lots of third party web browsers for the Apple iPhone that have recently been offered a space in the App Store. iBlueAngel is also a third party web browser and it is considered the best of all. The iBlueAngel app is presented by Hung Duong and is considered as the most promising third party web browsers. Asan ambitious project for iPhone, the iBlueAngel hosts a variety of assorted features and a unique interface to access those features.
Besides basic web browsing the iBlueAngel allows the users to select and copy blocks of text on a website and then e-mail the same along with the URL using the iPhone’s e-mail application. If you paste the selected block of text in the address bar then the bar will expand and look like a Google search box. Then it will search the web for that text only. This is a very useful option practically. You can search for any phrase you come across during web surfing without loading Google.com in a new window. Unlike other third party browsers the iBlueAngel also supports offline view. Thus, you can save the web pages for viewing them even when your iPhone is not connected to the Internet.
The iBlueAngel can also handle variety of files including the PDFs, word documents, excel sheets, text files and PNG, JPG and GIF in images. All types of documents can be saved in the background mode without obstructing the browsing. Once all the data is downloaded and saved you can use the iBlueAngle’s Magic dashboard to quickly access all the stuff in offline mode. This programme also supports tabbed browsing, bookmarks, history, forward/backward option etc. It is the only third party web browser that has potential to replace Apple Safari in iPhones. Indeed, it is one of the most powerful third party browsers we have seen, and could potentially even replace the Windows Mobile web browser found in Windows Mobile phones like the HTC S740. Hung Duong has definitely been remarkably successful with this app, and we look forward to any new updates it undergoes.

Lock your iPhone Screen with the iBrowser
iBrowser is one of the third party web browsers for iPhone launched recently. As every third party iPhone browser features something special the iBrowser too claims to be a unique one. The special feature of this browser is that it allows the user to lock the screen orientation. This means that if you lock the screen in portrait mode then the orientation of the web page will not change even if you hold the Apple iPhone in landscape direction.
This is a very useful feature because most of the time it happens that even a slight change in the iPhone’s direction leads to change in the web site’s orientation. Normally this automatic screen directional change, found other smartphones like the T-Mobile G1 Google-phone or HTC models, is a major asset for users. However, web browsers that are sensitive to phone’s direction cause lots of trouble when the user is driving. The iBrowser can solve this issue and offer you irritation free web browsing. But like the other third party browsers the iBrowser too has its own limitations. It does not support multiple pages or tabbed browsing plus there is no support for bookmarks, history, emailing a link to a page, page zoom in and zoom out. Moreover you will not find any preferences for customising cookies and scripts.
If you can survive without these options then the iBrowser app is perhaps the best option. However, the Incognito and QuickSurf are still better than this because these two also support screen’s orientation locking technology and offer loads of extra features and capabilities.

Hot Browser for Apple iPhone: Another Alternative to Safari on iPhone
Hot Browser is another third party application that claims itself as the best alternative to the Apple iPhone’s default web browser named Safari. The main attraction of the hot Browser is that it is sensitive to the shakes. Whenever the user shakes the iPhone this browser loads a random web page automatically. The basic idea is same as of Sony Eicsson’s walkman phones, like the Sony-Ericsson W910i, in which every time the user shakes the mobile phone the music gets changed randomly.
Hot Browser may sound good and interesting but practically it is of no use. Most of the time the web site that gets loaded in response to the shake is boring and repeats itself a lot. Most of the users have noticed that there are six main websites that gets loaded and out of them two web sites are related to the programme’s author, i.e. Mark Schmatz IT. The remaining web sites are related to Ruby programming language and German language. So if you are thinking of getting YouTube movies, Yahoo, Google, MySpace or something like that then the Hot Browser is ready to disappoint you. Moreover all the basic web browsing tools like forward/backward buttons, history, bookmarks and preferences are absent.
The Hot Browser is more like an experiment with the iPhone rather than an effective alternate to the Safari browser. Alas! One more third party application seems to loose.
