The End of Pwn2Own 2009: Web Browsers Including Apple Safari were Hacked and Smartphones and Google Chrome Remained Unbroken
The third annual Pwn2Own security competition that was held at the CanSecWest conference in Vancouver, Canada has come to an end on 20th March 2009, i.e. Friday and revealed the weaknesses and loopholes of all the popular web browsers. This competition was intended to offer the white hat hackers a chance to crack the codes of popular web browsers including Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and Apple Safari and the codes of popular smartphone operating systems.
The results are quite amazing, something that wasn’t expected. The Google Chrome and all the smartphones remained un-cracked but the Apple Safari, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox were easily hacked multiple times. Apple Safari was hacked by Charlie Miller in just a couple of seconds. This was followed by a 25 year old computer science student named Nils who demonstrated the vulnerabilities of Safari, Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox.
The contestants also tried their tricks on Google Chrome browser and BlackBerry, Android, iPhone, Symbian and Windows Mobile smartphones but failed to break into the codes of these applications. According to the TippingPoint Technologies, the sponsor of the event, the Apple iPhone 3G could be hacked using one of the Safari exploits that was already used but according to the contest rules the same bug cannot be used twice.
The results clearly reveal that the smartphone OSes are far more secure than web browsers, except Google Chrome. This definitely brings the Chrome on the top of other web browsers and is expected to outshine its rivalries in near future in terms of market share, popularity and reliability.

LG Xnote Mini: One of the lightest Notebooks available
The Korean electricals manufacturer LG has launched new mini notebook series, the LG Xnote MINI. The ‘LG Xnote MINI’ is going to become one of the strong competitors for the other brand of the mini notebook pc that are available today. The ‘Xnote MINI’ has some lovely features in order to accommodate latest requirement of today’s application. This mini notebook is also available in several colours in black, white and pink.
LG’s Xnote Mini is just like every other notebook and its specifications rarely differ from the other. We rarely see any LG laptops on the market, like the LG E200, and the company is really better known for its mobile phones. Inside LG’s Xnote Mini you will find Intel 1.6GHz processor CPU, 1.3 mega pixel camera, 10″ LCD display and 160GB hard disk drive; nothing too impressive. The new ‘Xnote Mini’ notebook weighs just around 1.19kg. The notebook is equipped along with SD card reader, 3 USB ports, Ethernet jack, stereo audio connection and a VGA port. The availability and the pricing information about this notebook are under wraps.
There are numerous notebooks that are available in market and are increasing very fast. Every week, we all can see some or the other company releasing small new notebook. But most of the notebooks have the same configuration. It is light notebook from LG and the screen is 10 inch. Notebooks are kind of computers that are smaller in size than standard notebooks but the maintenance is the very close factor to notebook. Notebooks are considered to succeed over Tablets and UMPCs. This factor is due to Notebooks maintained simplicity and has similar keyboard layout that is found in the standard notebooks.

iTunes and Safari tweaks from upgraded Versions
Apple’s latest versions of iTunes and Safari (8.1 and 4 Beta respectively) offer new features, but for some people it was longing the way things were. There were no fans for default settings or interface elements in the recent version.
The release of ‘Safari 4 Beta’ brought some changes in the interface to Apple’s browser and also included new tabs interface. But unfortunately, people weren’t the fans of new interface elements. ‘Safari 4 Beta’ provides quick access to fourteen hidden settings. There are some significant settings that you can change by yourself and they are:
• Tabs on Top – when it is unchecked it moves the tabs to Safari 3 position and then restores title bar.
• ‘Use new load progress style’ – if you have disabled ‘Toolbar Redesign setting’ to restore Safari 3 toolbar, the setting determines the progress indicator that you see.
• Toolbar Redesign – when it is unchecked it restores toolbar to layout of Safari 3 by removing Reload button, Bookmarks within spinning progress indicator and the address field.
• Cover flow in bookmarks – when it is unchecked it disables ‘Cover Flow’.
• Google suggestions – when it is unchecked it disables new drop – down list of search history and suggestions.
• Top site features – when it is unchecked it disables ‘Top Sites feature’.
Every time a new version of Apple iTunes gets introduced, people don’t like a couple of the tweaks such as the behaviour or the appearance.
Some of the other tweaks are showing library play – list, showing genre while browsing, showing arrow links, allowing half – stars in ratings, loading complete store preview before playing, playing songs while converting or importing and creating file names along with track number. Of course, if you have an iPod like the Apple iPod nano 8 GB, then you are practically forced to upgrade, which makes it difficult to reverse any changes later on. Nevertheless, most everything included in the new iTunes version is fairly positive.

Dell Adamo: Overtakes MacBook Air as slimmest Notebook
The need for a stylish and powerful notebook finally seems to be gratified with the Dell’s new machine called Adamo. It’s a good -looking notebook computer that offers a 1.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 128GB solid state drive and 2 GB memory in its basic model.
Out of its two USB ports, one is a simple display port while the other one is a USB/eSATA port. Apart from all the other factors, it is quite evident that Dell has focussed on the design and looks. This perception is also supported by the words of Dell’s consumer marketing executive, who said, “We wanted something that is thin, elegant and offers quality that beat competitors.” Indeed, Dell managed to not only make the Adamo thinner that its other laptops like the Dell Studio 1737, but also actually surpassed the Apple MacBook Air in terms of slimness. And whilst we definitely agree on how sleek and well designed the Adamo is, there is one noticeable drawback; namely, its higher than expected weight.
I don’t mean that Adamo is heavy but it is definitely not as light as one may perceive it to be. It is obvious that when you hear about a slim and sleek gadget, it is obvious that you pre-assume that it must be light in weight. But it weighs four pounds that is little more than the three pounds of the Macbook Air. If compared with the latest models in the market, you will find the HP’s Voodoo Envy to be very similar in terms of styling.
Other advantages of the Dell Adamo include the scalloped keys that facilitate touch typing and a glowing, polished finish.
